Two years ago I would have never imagined all the roads I have traveled and the people I have met. In December 2019, after submitting several interviews and meeting several places willing to open doors for me to work with them, I arrived at Mercy Corps. I remember how they repeated it to me several times in college, to enlist my best look at night, to know a little more about the organization so that way, to arrive "prepared to the interview". Although I must confess that no matter how much preparation I had, the nerves were always present.

Upon arrival, I realized that this would not be an interview like the previous ones. I was greeted warmly, making me feel welcome and comfortable. From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to do my internship in a place like this, a place where I could be authentic and where I would work in something that has moved me all my life: service.

Two years later, I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity not only to do my internship but also to have had the opportunity to learn, to challenge myself every day, and to confirm that working in this organization is the beginning of my professional path.

What is it like to work in an NGO?
In an NGO, I don't know. At Mercy Corps, it is one of the most enriching experiences of my life. It is an organization that not only works to transform the lives of other people, with the activities, workshops, and the human quality of its team but also transforms the lives of those who work there.

I can say that I still have a lot to learn, that a pandemic, 8 programs, a bigger work team, and the possibility of continuing to travel through the municipalities, telling the stories of all those people who work every day to build a better future for their families, are the greatest inspiration to continue on this path and feel very proud to be part of Mercy Corps.
